My friend Marcie shared these stunning pictures taken from her front yard yesterday evening. It's a Tropical Storm Edouard sunset.
Pretty, huh?
As I settle in after a busy day I wonder, in the days before telephones and computers and newscasters and televisions, what our Acadian forefathers thought as they looked up and saw this tabasco sauce sky.
Did they stop their work in the fields and see the mantle of His sovereign reign draping the sky like an altar cloth?
Did they know what was on the horizon?
Or did they see a prayer for their souls written on the sky and fall to their knees in benediction, Job's-tear rosary beads clicking out in reverent awe?
Did they suspect what was on the horizon?
Did the old trapper in the swamp raise his nets and glide his pirogue silently home with the pole gripped tightly in the gnarled palm of his hands?
Did he foretell what was on the horizon? Did he guess?
Did they see a masterpiece? Or did they see a mystery?
Did they see a cryptic dance with nature? Or did they see the Apocalypse?
Did they see the wrath of God? Or did they see the wonder of God?
Thank you for sharing, Marcie, and thank you, everyone, for the prayers and kind words. Tropical Storm Edouard crept in like a gentle kitty. We'll continue to pray that this was our trophy "hurricane" of the season.

Cay, that is a gorgeous sky!
It will remind me to keep hurricane zones in my prayers, over here on the other coast.
