Prayer During Hurricane Season

  • Prayer for Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen. Originally dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Audrey in 1957. - Fr. Al Volpe, Cameron Parish, LA

Prayer to End Abortion

  • Prayer to End Abortion
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

As mom of seven and former classroom teacher (but new to homeschooling) I can appreciate your post! I thought you might like to hear that we purchased your Catholic Mosaic for use this year and with the overly-critical eye of a teacher, I have to say...I LOVE it! I think it looks great and I like that it provides a framework, while not being overwhelming. I hope that you find the same from your new school year schedule.

God Bless,
Jane

Cay, you have incredible timing. Remember I mentioned the group of women that were here on Tuesday for a meeting? It was a coop meeting - it is changing direction. Ideally, it will be more challenging for the kids and less play and chat time. I am worried about the time the kids and I will have to spend at home preparing for this new direction. Time I already don't have with my son, time we should be learning, and enjoying each other's company. You've raised some interesting points for me to chew on.

Cay, so well said (written)! How often I wish for the support of a co-op, but how often I also think of the time that it ties up in teaching. It is wonderful that you can reach a happy medium keeping in mind that is faithfulness and not success that God is asking you for. How well stated!

And I remember when I was considering homeschooling (years ago), how a friend said to me that it was only through Him that I could have what it took to educate my children! How true these words were then as now! Thank you so much for your inspiration.

Beautifully written, Cay. It expresses so well the angst we go through as we discern too much, not enough, just right...the give and take in prayer, and letting go of our own ideas in order to make room for the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Darn those spreadsheets are lovely, aren't they!

Beautiful, Cay. I know that I will have to be dealing with this same phobia in a mere couple of years and it almost makes me cry just thinking about it.

"He will ask if I have been faithful."
Hugs sent to you, my faithful friend.
