Prayer During Hurricane Season

  • Prayer for Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen. Originally dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Audrey in 1957. - Fr. Al Volpe, Cameron Parish, LA

Prayer to End Abortion

  • Prayer to End Abortion
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

I wanted to let you know one more thing about what the book is doing in our home. I have a very "hard-to-teach" 7 year old. The past 2 years I have almost despaired that she would learn a thing from me. She still struggles to read on her own. Your book gave me that one more boost of encouragement I needed to really do what I knew in my heart she needed. And that is, gets stacks and stacks of good, soul-filling, eye-pleasing books on every subject I want to teach her and just read and read and then read some more LOL. I'm going to the library weekly. She is a much happier, peaceful child and she is learning... LOTS!
And by the way, Lu and the Swamp Ghost is delightful! I was lucky enough to find it with a CD of Carville reading it. The illustrations are so vibrant and his voice is just what you should hear as you read the book. Never mind the fact that it teaches a wee bit of history too.

Thank you, Maria. These stories are my perfect "cup of tea" and I love hearing them. :)

Your wonderings are the wonderings of every writer I know, me included! Writing is a solo practice and can be isolating, so hearing from readers is always a blessing. Clearly, you are blessed indeed.

Cay, in no way is this book "just" a book of lists. It is so.much.more. After reading it through the second time, my ds6 and I went online and read the first book you recommended - Billy's Mountain. Even though we were reading it on the monitor and not snuggled on the couch, my son was enthralled. Immediately after reading it, he grabbed a sheet of paper and crayons and started to draw his mountain, all on his own. No prompting, pleading, cajoling from me. THANK YOU!

The head librarian in our town has borrowed my copy, due in part to my raving about your book. I'm feeling a little lost right now without it...

Meredith

Waiting anxiously for my copy Cay so I can share my review too :)))) You are most definately blessed as the "other" Meredith so eloquently alluded, hugs!!
