  • Prayer for Hurricane Season
    O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us.     Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. Hillside Education Has Found a Needle in a Haystack

And I'm sure you, like me, will want one of these needles.

I, as a proud friend and colleague of Alice Gunther, am walking on sunshine...straight past the hayfield and into her Cottage for a cup of friendly conversation. 

Alice and I have a "thing" for quaint cottages.  ;)

Her new book A Haystack Full of Needles is due to debute this spring from Hillside Education. 

I, for one, just love this cover, and the subject matter is one that breaks ground where most of us fear to tread.  Alice takes the plow in hand and harrows the ground for us and I can think of no other (or trust no other) veteran homeschool mom to show us how to tame the massive beast.

What beast? you ask. What dreaded subject matter?

Socialization!  Oops! I said the "s" word! 

Here is the Catholic home educators' guide (dare I say a guide for all home educators?) that grabs the bull by the horns and and focuses on the ends and outs, ups and downs, weaknesses and strengths of socialization.  No haystack is left unturned.

I'll be sure to let my readers know when the book is ready for ordering.  I can't wait for spring!
