A True Home
"A roof to keep out the rain. Four walls to keep out the wind. Floors to keep out the cold. Yes, but home is more than that. It is the laugh of a baby, the song of a mother, the strength of a father. Warmth of loving hearts, light from happy eyes, kindness, loyalty, comradeship. Home is first school...for the young ones where they learn what is right, what is good, and what is kind. Where they go for comfort when they are hurt or sick. Where joy is shared and sorrow eased. Where fathers and mothers are respected and loved. Where children are wanted. Where the simplest food is good enough for kings because it is earned. Where money is not so important as loving-kindness. Where even the teakettle sings from happiness. That is home." ~ Ernestine Schumann-Heink
Tonight supper was a baked loaf of Friendship Bread made from starter given to me by my friend Lori...
...and biscuity loaves of seasoned beef and cheese thanks to a recipe offered by Anne.
Beef Roll
- Brown ground meat with onions and green peppers. Drain well.
- Make biscuit dough and roll out into a large rectangle. (I did cheat and used canned biscuit dough by placing eight biscuits in two lines of four. I used a rolling pin to roll them into the rectangle then flapped the edges to meet. It works perfectly.)
- Spoon meat over middle of dough and top with parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese. Fold up the ends and sides and press to seal.
- Bake 350 for about 15 min (golden brown)
- I rub butter on roll and slice and serve.
This also freezes well.
You can make small rolls for each person (if desired)!
Thank you, Anne! The family loved it. :)
Ha! So funny! We made that exact same beef roll thing for lunch yesterday! I also cheated and used refrigerated croissant dough. It was a big hit!
