Prayer During Hurricane Season

  • Prayer for Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us. Amen. Originally dedicated to the victims of Hurricane Audrey in 1957. - Fr. Al Volpe, Cameron Parish, LA

Prayer to End Abortion

  • Prayer to End Abortion
Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

mrs darling

Oh I totally loved this post!

My 11 year old hates Pollyanna too but its been awhile since Ive read it to her. I want to try again after reading this. I loved those books!

WOW! I didn't realize that my daughters had so many things to be glad about when they were teenagers.......I seem to remember lots of banging doors while they were growing up! ;-)

I think that playing the glad game would take lots of faith and courage, Cay. To hold onto gladness in the face of the tragedies Pollyanna faces is not for the faint of heart!

My six-year-old has fallen in love with this book as well! We recently watched the DVD (Masterpiece Theater version, not Disney)and she loved that as well.

Cay G.

LOL! I know what you mean. I guess there's a difference between "banging" a door and "slamming" a door. :)

Luckily, I've never had a teenager "slam" a door. Am I "glad" or what? :)

I was mostly relating the quote to my 6 yr old who "happily" bangs the French doors on her way outside. It happens quite frequently and we're always tell her to stop. My dh makes her come back in the house and "do it properly". LOL There's a time and a place for teaching...definitely...but I'll never hear a door bang or slam without thinking why the person is doing it.

You are so right. The glad game is "not" for the faint of heart. My 10 year old and I discussed the "glad game" this morning. She needs much practice with this and perhaps making a game of it will help.

Thank you, Annette, for mentioning the movie. I was going to check our library's selections when we finished reading the book. I know my six year old will enjoy it. :)

Cay, if you find that version of the movie, let us know how it is! As charming as Disney's is they did rather tweak the story a bit, I'd say...
