Would you please keep your vigil candle burning a little while longer please?
My good friend Kimberly could use some prayers to lift her up, to give her family peace, to give her mother (fighting a courageous battle with cancer) courage, to beg her husband a safe flight to his grandfather's funeral, and---with well-lit hope---to give his grandfather's soul a light into Heaven to the protective embrace of a merciful God.
There is little we can do from a distance for those we love and care about. Lighting a candle in prayer is perhaps the easiest thing we can do but it is the most powerful act of grace and fellowship.
I'm a sucker for candles. I guess most Catholics are. Candles represent so much. With a mere flick of a match, a room can be transformed into a reflective and meditating place when we need it to be (think "scented candle and bubblebaths") or a romantic getaway (think "weddings and romantic dinners") or a happy and joyful canopy (think "birthday candles").
"There is beauty and reverence found in a laddar of lights leading the way to Heaven, in the smoke that wafts heavenward with our prayers, in the flickering flame-dance upon the glass case, and the soft sizzle of the stick as its sword is silenced in the sand. It lifts our minds, hearts, and spirits upward."
Thank you for your prayers and presence.
Yes - I agree about candles. I just came from lighting one of mine a moment ago. I love the religious ones you can find in some grocery stores. I will pray for the intentions you mentioned.

I am blessed beyond words. May the Lord hear our pleas and may He bless those that send them up on our behalf.
Love,
