In trying desperately to quieten my OCD voices and scratch off all my To-Do Projects, I decided to look at what I had done this Advent season vs. what I had not done.
I never got Christmas cards sent out but...
I did get letters written to my CCD children. I once read how some children are never complimented at home and how parents may focus on all the negatives. So on each child's letter I wrote something extra nice about the child. Either how he/she makes me laugh, makes me smile, or how he/she makes me look forward to every Tuesday afternoon. I have read how one positive comment from a teacher can change a parent's attitude towards their child, kind of helping them to refocus. This was the main intent behind my Christmas letters to each child.
Fourth graders are a wonderful set and I hope they all have JOY in their lives this Christmas season.
Before our Christmas break, I also had my class make Christmas cards to send to our area seminarians...
When I told them I had mailed their cards to the men who were discerning whether God was calling them to the priesthood or not, their eyes were as round as the votive candles on the Advent wreath which we all stood around while praying the vocation prayer. If explained carefully to them, small children take this vocation discernment very seriously and their prayers can prove powerful tools for our future priests and religious.
So, I do hope that, in its own small way, this makes up for all the Christmas cards I never got around to ordering and sending.
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and I never had all my 5 children here in spiffy clothes long enough to orchestra a Christmas picture so...
I had to dig up an oldie...but goodie. :)
Hope this counts too. :)
Everything else on my To-Do List has been completed, so I'm one Happy Mama! :)
What a sweet and meaningful gift you gave those kids. Great idea.
Loved the Brady picture - very funny!
