This Sunday our oldest daughter took her little sisters on a Sisters-Only Date: to the movies, to the Candy Craze Shop, and ice cream parlor.
Hubby and I were left home looking at each other from across an empty room.
Well, not exactly.
There were lots of Christmas fairy dolls, stuffed Webkinz animals, and our three live pets staring back at us. So I suggested we take advantage of this cozy time to do something.
My hubby had outside work plans. He wants to build his own smoke house. But outside work plans bore me, so I told him we were going on a date.
And go we did.
Down to the Creole Nature Trail...
Where gators and birds live in harmony and bask under a Louisiana sun...
Where cattails send forth young seeds to welcome the New Year...
And marsh cane waves goodbye to the old year...
Where, once the hurricane roared...
the waterways now reflect a peaceful sky.
Down to Holly Beach...
where the Cajun Riviera, ravaged as vacant as the surface of the moon by Hurricane Rita in 2005, is being rebuilt...
Where seashells tan on the sun-kissed beach...
and seagulls play tag with the water...
and shrimp boats cast their nets and prayers into the depths of the water in hopes of pulling up a full harvest...
and, though the church was swept away with the storm, there is a concrete reminder that God is in His heaven, still watching over the Gulf and His people, and all is right with the world.
While no outside work plans were accomplished today, many plans were discussed, dreamed, and developed on a day that is fully devoted to the exemplary example the Holy Family set for us.
What a perfect way to prepare for the New Year.
Cay,
Enjoyed the beautiful pictures...will have to have Dad go one day with me to see it. For a "winter" day...it reminded me of SUMMER.

Beautiful!
Hey - my husband wants to build a smokehouse, too. We were just looking over some designs last night. Unfortunately . . . instead of working on the smoke house today, my husband is out shoveling snow!
:)

Cay,
Thank you for posting such beautiful pictures of your neck of the woods. I could visualize myself sitting in a comfy chair resting my broken ankle- on your Cajun Riviera. It looks so amazingly gorgeous. Wish I could really be there!
May you and your family have a Blessed New Year.

Hi. I just stumbled across your blog. I, too, am from Louisiana. I have not yet had time to read more of your blog than this post, but I know I will spend some time here. I have to uncover your interest in all these picture books. I have a children's picture book called Before the Saltwater Came, that you can see at wetlandbooks.com Beautiful blog. Please pay mine a visit if you get a chance!
