  • Prayer for Hurricane Season
    O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us.     Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. Growing Pets in a Jar

This little jar of "ick" found in my watering can last week has taken us on an impromptu mosquito trial.

They are fiesty little things, still in the larvae stage (also known appropriately as "the wigglers") and look very much like this culex here:

They stay in the larvae stage for 4-10 days. You can't see ours in the jar so to show your children how energetic these larvae are, click here for a short video showing:  Asian Tiger Mosquito Larvae Swimming in Water

Ours should be going into the pupa stage soon.

Anybody want a pet mosquito?

Let's see... we have 3 dogs, 2 cats and some fish. We recently gave away two guinea pigs, a gecko and 2 finches so we would have the room, but I think we'll pass.

Very interesting though.
