At one time I thought library fines for overdue books went into the library fund for purchasing new books. That would make sense, right? A real no-brainer.

Then, at a conference, a former librarian informed me that this was incorrect. Being a parish (or county) facility, the overdue book fines go into a parish (county) fund to be used for whatever. Possibly even a politician's pocket? A real no-brainer.

Today, I received this worrisome bit of information from Thrifty Hser guru Maureen Wittmann:

"Did you know that late fees at the library can negatively affect your credit rating? Yep, some libraries report negligent patrons to credit reporting agencies. Another good reason to keep track of those library books."

If you need help with this tiresome little task, sign up for a bi-weekly library pick-up reminder at the online House of Literature.

Good heavens! We probably have terrible credit then ):
Sigh...

We just bought dh a new truck and the car dealer said we have excellent credit. : )
Perhaps It's because I pay the fines everytime I visit the library. : )
