Could You Help Us Prepare for Hurricane Gustav?
Only my husband (and most probably my mother and oldest daughter) could get a week's worth of food for a family of seven to fit inside these two little bins:
If I become silent anytime soon it is due to this:
There is a way your can help us prepare for this thing. Could you offer a prayers...or two? For safety? That the hurricane is a weak one wherever it hits? For decisions made and decisions taken?
Mark and I did our hurricane prep shopping last night. It's very unsettling when you turn down the water aisle and there are buggies stacked and the water on the shelves is disappearing.
I'm praying for all areas as we don't know where this one will hit but it's coming into the Gulf with a punch which makes it a scary prospect.
Here's that prayer. If you all don't mind praying it with us:
Prayer During Hurricane Season
O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude; you are still the Master of land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control.
The Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster.
During this hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time.
O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity awaits us.
Amen.

and if you draw a nice little line straight thru the middle of the cone in the gulf...well, I could just open my front door and tell the odd named storm to come right in....have I done anything? NO! Well, I am praying...I just need to start preparing physically.
Cay, I am praying with you!

I am praying for you all! My Mom still lives in New Orleans, now uptown after our lakefront home was submerged by Katrina.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, please protect everyone in the path of this hurricane!

Oh Cay, you know I'm praying right along with you! I haven't even put the boat back together from Fay yet. Just sitting here checking that cone a jillion times a day. :( Why make it pretty when I may have to leave it again in a few days? I may go vaccuum the car instead.

Cay, we are praying for you and for us and for anyone else in that possible "cone of uncertainty." We live just south of Houston. Thanks for posting that wonderful prayer!

Thank you all for your prayers and concern.
Cheryl, we've got you all covered in prayer as well. These storms are funny intentions to pray about. How do we pray? We don't pray for it to hit another area where our friends and family live. We pray for it to weaken, that no lives are lost, that property is not destroyed, etc.
In the end we always have to leave it in God's hand.
Charlotte, you live much closer than I thought. ;) Thank you for the offer but after Rita my parents bought a camp up north LA. We'll evacuate there if need be.
Thank you all for the prayers.

Wow! We have the same boxes, but not two weeks worth in them! I would love to see your list... I get a mental storm block and can't think past peanut butter and ravioli. :-|
